Sketchbook

Scribblings from the hallowed tome "Of Things To Be". Concepts, designs and random scrawls and scribbles. Need to improve my sketching skills in order to communicate my ideas more clearly, but you get the idea.....

08/06/14 - Wow, long time no update. My personal life went to hell in April 2012, just about to start the recovery progress now certain things have happened to finalise and near enough close one chapter of my life. I have been drawing, sketching and painting. I just haven't been running this blog. Which is a shame, as it is meant as a diary of both my own work and the work of others I admire and that seizes my eyes and makes me shout "WOW!!" like a crazed loon.

Anyway, what I have I been up to? Well, pencils as usual but also started to dabble with marker work. Copic Markers to be exact. Not cheap, but fantastic quality professional, industry quality markers. I have done some a4-a3 drawings and some sketch cards - ACEO (Artist Cards Editions & Originals) size, 3.5x2.5 inches. Here's some stuff without further ado.....

23/12/12 - Of late my interest in pencil drawing has increased a little. Just to love doing pencils when I was younger and I am enjoying rediscovering it. I have completed another drawing, a warg inspired by a very rough sketch of a wolf like warg by John Howe in ImagineFX. It was literally just a wolf with a vicious grin. I thought it should look more goblin like with warts, lumps and a little more detail so I did my own Warg. Photo coming soon. Also in progress is a drawing of Radagast the Brown. Here is a little in progress photograph of that....

28/11/12 - A simple pencil of a goblin head, having lots of fun doing these little guys. His name is "Pothead".

02/06/11 - More digital work in Corel Painter. I have a deep love for black and white inked art. This love comes primarily from the work done by the guys who illustrated the Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone adventure game books back in the day but also from the master Frank Frazetta whose black and white work is amazing to say the least.

01/06/11 - Been playing on Corel Painter. Just an ugly old ogre character.

28/04/11 - I recently purchased the new Nintendo 3DS along with a copy of Art Academy "game" so I now have a very portable mini sketchbook. It has limitations but is certainly fine for pencil drawings. The only problem is I cannot save them outside of the cartridge! I have learnt however that a downloadable version is available from the Nintendo e-store which does support the feature of saving to SD slot and there is a possibility of an update to utilise an option of the 3DS data management system that transfers save info to SD card so I may be in luck. Regardless, I recommend this game if you want a simple sketchbook to take out and about. It probably is best on the larger DSi, but as a gamer the 3DS holds far more appeal in terms of power and features and of course, its 3D!! That said, the improved  resolution of the 3DS allows for far more detailed sketching.....

Anyway, I have been working mainly on goblin sketches and its fun, but I have nothing to post here. Boo.......
